Puppy and Kitten Care
Becoming a new pet parent can be exciting and very nerve wrecking too. You have this new precious member of your family and you want to do the absolute best for them, but where to start? We want to be your trusted guide along your pet’s journey of wellness for a long and healthy life.
Puppy and Kitten Care
Many new pet owners underestimate the importance of puppy and kitten care. These early stages set the tone of your pet’s future health. We want to ensure you have the knowledge and tools available to provide the best life for your pet.
Once you bring your new fur baby home, it is important to schedule an initial wellness exam. This exam will help determine if your pet has any pre-existing conditions and to check for intestinal parasites. It is common for puppies and kittens to have intestinal parasites, therefore it is important to treat and clear any infections. These parasites can take away blood from your puppy or kitten and can sicken them.
Once your puppy or kitten is old enough, your veterinarian will be able to begin vaccinations for your new pet to help protect them from common diseases.
Vaccinations are an especially important part of establishing a healthy life for your new pet. Getting your puppy or kitten started on their vaccines at the appropriate age is the best way to avoid preventable diseases and illnesses which negatively impact their health.
Until they have their full vaccinations, they will be susceptible to those diseases, some of which can be life threatening. Limiting their contact with unvaccinated or ill pets until they complete their vaccine boosters is an extra precaution in keeping them healthy.
Puppies and Kittens often require more frequent meal feeding times. Your vet can guide you on the recommended frequencies and nutrients. They need energy to grow into healthy adults, this is obtained from puppy and kitten food.
One important aspect of puppy and kitten care is to have your animal’s behavior evaluated. Our veterinary team will be able to assess if your new pet has any behavioral problems and answer any questions you may have. You may not be able to determine every behavioral problem early on, but these evaluations enable early intervention for any problematic behaviors and allows them to be addressed before they become a more serious issue.
