      Senior Pets

Due to improved veterinary care and dietary habits, pets are living longer now than they ever have before!

Senior pets may develop age-related problems, good care allows them to live happy, healthy, and active lives in their senior years. Regular veterinary examinations can detect problems in older pets before they become advanced or life-threatening and improve the chances of a longer and healthier life for your pet.

Below are some care considerations for your senior pet.

Increased veterinary care Geriatric pets should have semi-annual veterinary visits instead of annual visits so signs of illness or other problems can be detected early and treated. Senior pet exams may include possible bloodwork and specific checks for physical signs of diseases that are more likely in older pets.
      Diet and nutrition

Geriatric pets often need foods that are more easily digested and anti-aging nutrients.

      Weight Control

Senior Dogs- Weight gain increases the risk of health problems

Senior Cats- weight loss increases the risk of health problems

Parasite control Senior pets cannot fight off diseases or heal as fast as younger pets because their immune systems are not as healthy.
Maintaining mobility Appropriate exercise keeps pets healthier and more mobile.
Mental health Interactions can help keep your pet mentally active
Environmental considerations Older pets may need changes in their lifestyle, such as sleeping areas to avoid stairs.
Reproductive diseases Non-neutered/non-spayed are at higher risk of mammary, testicular, and prostate cancers.
