Never Leave Your Pet in a Parked Vehicle

Thinking of leaving your pet in the car while you run into the gas station? Think again.

Florida summers can be beautiful, but brutal. It can take only 10 minutes for the inside of your car to get to 109 degrees. Even if your window is cracked, and it is only for a couple of minutes, it is never safe to leave your pet alone in a parked vehicle.

Here are a few ways you can keep your pet safe during car rides this summer:

      • Get window shades and a car thermometer.
      • Ensure your pet is getting plenty of fresh, clean water to stay hydrated.
      • Try out a pet cooling pad for your back seat.
      • In between car rides, ensure your pet is getting fresh air and exercise.
      • If the asphalt is hot, please do not let your pet linger. Hot asphalt can be dangerous for your pet's paws.
      • Know the signs of heatstroke. Symptoms can include, excessive panting, increased heart, and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness, and collapsing. Learn more at Dogs In Hot Cars and Other Summer Dangers | ASPCA
